Solo Europe trip (June–July) – loose plan, train-heavy. What would you tweak + what’s actually fun to do travelling by myself?
Our take

| Hey guys, Planning my first proper solo trip across Europe around my visit to sister's place in Utrecht , Nehterlans.. Roughly 6–7 weeks. Not trying to over-plan everything, just setting a loose route and figuring things out on the go. Rough route: Netherlands (Utrecht/Amsterdam/Rotterdam) → Belgium/ Luxembourg/North France from my sisters place Bonn (visiting a friend)/Frankfurt → Prague → Budapest → Vienna reach Stockholm. ferry to → Helsinki (an architecture tour in Finland) Anchor points Trying to mostly use trains, avoid too many flights, and keep it flexible. Mix of hostels + occasional comfortable stays. Need some real-world inputs:
Does this flow make sense or am I doing something obviously inefficient?
Prague, Budapest, Vienna — keep all 3 or cut one?
Any solid areas to stay in: Prague / Budapest / Vienna / Stockholm More importantly: If you’ve done solo travel in Europe — what actually makes it good? Not generic sightseeing. Things that are genuinely better alone Experiences that don’t feel awkward solo Places/activities where being solo is actually an advantage. Not looking for a packed checklist. Just trying to avoid dumb mistakes and make the trip feel less like ticking boxes and more like a solid solo experience. Also looking to have a different perspective to life / work (i am an architect) etc. [link] [comments] |

- Need help choosing nature spots in Central Europe!Hi all, I am currently planning a solo trip to Central Europe for May (I am located in the US). Earlier this week, I posted an itinerary that got some traction, and I made some revisions based on the feedback, shown below. Prague (3 nights) -> Munich (2 nights) -> ??? + Salzburg? (5 nights) -> Vienna/Bratislava day trip (4 nights) I am debating where to go for an alpine retreat/sightseeing for 5 nights in the middle of my trip, whether that is in southern Germany or in Tyrol. I am assuming I would need to spend at least a night in Salzburg to get to Vienna the next day. Based on some of the suggestions from the last post, I was thinking 2 nights in Berchtesgaden, 2 nights in Zell am See, and 1 night in Salzburg, but I am very open to any suggestions. Also, any info on where to eat, what to do, where to stay, or any other small tips for the other cities is greatly appreciated. I have traveled a bunch before with friends and family, but this is my first time alone. I have already booked all the hostels for the other cities. For my interests (if pertinent): I love trying new/unique food Not big on museums/art I like to hike/am faster paced at traveling in general Prefer to use public transportation rather than renting a car I don't drink at all Thanks! submitted by /u/TheCheesyTaco [link] [comments]
- Solo europe trip for 8 monthsHi all, im a 25m, have 60k in non invested savings, a steady 6 figure career in the mines in aus. Started hating my life rhythm, hated being away from friends, loosing connections, loosing hobbies, feeling ehausted, i just overall felt something was off in my life and have decide to quit my job and go traveling. So ive been over seas once for a 2 week trip to Thailand solo. But I'm thinking I want to go to europe this time for a good 8 months to a year. A good hard reset. I'm thinking of doing some worldpackers volunteering in between staying in cheap hostels and making my way across europe. Is worldpackers a legit company and if so is it any good and has your experiences with them been good? Another thing, where is the best place to start? Im looking at setting off in june/july and I was kinda thinking greece and work my way up but not sure, any advice in a path would be much appreciated, I'm just kinda winging it. How easy is it to make friends in hostels and doing worldpackers volunteering. Do most people go solo, meet people, vibe and then travel with them or are most people just keen to hang out in a destination then say goodbye. As an Australian do i need visas for every country. Can i use NAB cards over there, is there much use of cash or is it all contactless payments etc. And lastly is there anything I should know about europe and traveling in general, good places to go, places to avoid things to experience, new things to try etc. Im kinda freaking out tbh. submitted by /u/HowardTheDucksDong [link] [comments]
- First long-haul solo trip (Thailand) - group tour or go it alone?Hey All, 28M from the UK - first long-haul solo trip, thinking about Thailand (3 weeks) next week and stuck between going solo vs booking a group tour. I’ve done a short solo trip before (Amsterdam for a few days) but nothing this big. Part of me is excited - new country, completely different environment, proper reset. Other part is a bit anxious about being alone that far from home for that long. Main concerns: I like structure - not rigid, but I don’t want to land and feel like I’m wasting time not knowing what to do Mild social anxiety - I can talk to people, but I’m not someone who’ll instantly make friends in a hostel as I'm initially slow to get out of my comfort zone Worried about getting bored/lonely after a week or two I do want to meet people, just not in a forced or overwhelming way Not keen on shared dorms - I’d strongly prefer my own room if possible I’ve been looking at group tours (like Intro Travel): 9–12 day tours seem manageable and structured 18 days feels like a lot + less freedom Idea would be: do a 9–12 day tour, then solo travel after But they’re £1,000 plus, so I’m questioning whether it’s worth it vs just planning things myself. Questions: Is a group tour worth it for someone like me, or is it unnecessary? Is Thailand actually easy enough to do solo without it being overwhelming? Did anyone feel similar before their first long solo trip - and how did it turn out? Is 3 weeks too long for a first solo trip? Any honest input appreciated - especially from people who were unsure before going. Thanks! submitted by /u/James1579 [link] [comments]
- [updated] looking for advice/feedback on my 2 month Europe itineraryI posted a few days ago a rough itinerary for a 2 month Europe trip I am going on next summer but got a lot of feedback saying it’s way too rushed , I’m just seeing cities etc etc. I cut some places and added a bit of information to justify why I’ve picked the places I’ve picked The purpose of this trip as a 23yo is to lounge on beaches, party, and explore historical sites . At this point in time I’m not prioritizing rural or very small cities , however it is something I’d like to do in the future . That being said, this is what I have in order 🇬🇧** LONDO**N Fly out May 31st June 1st- 5th 🇮🇪** DUBLI**N June 5th- June 8th 🇵🇹** LISBO**N June 8th- 12th 🇵🇹PORTO June 12th- 15th 🇪🇸** BARCELON**A June 15th- June 19th 🇪🇸IBIZA June 19th- June 23rd 🇫🇷** NIC**E June 23rd- June 26th 🇩🇰** COPENHAGE**N June 26th- June 30th 🇩🇪** BERLI**N June 30th- July 4th 🇨🇿** PRAGU**E July 4th- July 8th 🇭🇺** BUDAPES**T July 8th- July 12th 🇮🇹** FLORENC**E July 12th- July 15th 🇮🇹** NAPLE**S July 15th- July 19th 🇹🇷** ISTANBU**L July 19th- July 23rd 🇬🇪** TBLIS**I July 23rd- July 27th I would love any sort of feedback in terms of whether this seems more feasible, whether these specific cities fit my description of the purpose of my trip etc. anything helps!
