Need help choosing nature spots in Central Europe!
Our take
Hi all,
I am currently planning a solo trip to Central Europe for May (I am located in the US). Earlier this week, I posted an itinerary that got some traction, and I made some revisions based on the feedback, shown below.
Prague (3 nights) -> Munich (2 nights) -> ??? + Salzburg? (5 nights) -> Vienna/Bratislava day trip (4 nights)
I am debating where to go for an alpine retreat/sightseeing for 5 nights in the middle of my trip, whether that is in southern Germany or in Tyrol. I am assuming I would need to spend at least a night in Salzburg to get to Vienna the next day.
Based on some of the suggestions from the last post, I was thinking 2 nights in Berchtesgaden, 2 nights in Zell am See, and 1 night in Salzburg, but I am very open to any suggestions.
Also, any info on where to eat, what to do, where to stay, or any other small tips for the other cities is greatly appreciated. I have traveled a bunch before with friends and family, but this is my first time alone. I have already booked all the hostels for the other cities.
For my interests (if pertinent):
I love trying new/unique food
Not big on museums/art
I like to hike/am faster paced at traveling in general
Prefer to use public transportation rather than renting a car
I don't drink at all
Thanks!

- Central Europe trip advice!I've done a lot of travelling so I wanted to try my first solo (at least for part of it) trip next summer and was starting to think about Central Europe. I was planning on going for around two weeks, with a very rough route of Krakow-Prague-Cesky Krumlow-Bratislava-Budapest-Ljubljana-Lake Bled - I'm pretty set on the countries. Was planning on mostly trains for travel and hostels for accomodation, trying to keep more budget. I would probably be going late June/early July time or late August/early September to avoid peak times. I like nature, hiking, history, food so most things would interest me. Would especially like advice for Slovakia because I know very little about it, but any advice would be welcome (especially if there's anywhere that's more unsafe as I'll be a solo female traveller). - Road Trip advice. Starting in Frankfurt, thinking of heading towards Austrian Alps. I have ~1 week.I'm going to be getting to frankfurt may 12 and fly out from there may 20. I love old castles and mountain hiking during the day and techno and good beer in the evenings. not married to the Austria destination, have spent a lot of time in Swiss Alps, thinking of mixing it up in the eastern alps. Thanks in advance for any and all advice! submitted by /u/bipinbipin [link] [comments]
- Visiting Munich for a week this summer – looking for recommendations (history, culture, food, architecture)Hi r/travel! I’ll be spending a full week in Munich this summer (June 5-12) and I want to make the most of it. I’ve done some research, but honestly nothing beats hearing from people who know the city well. So I’d love your recommendations. A bit about what I’m interested in: • History and historical sites. I love learning about the past through the places that shaped it, whether that’s medieval, WWII-era, or anything in between. If there are any tours or tour guides you recommend that would be great too • Immersing in local culture. I want to experience Munich the way people actually live it, not just the tourist surface • Local food and drink. Proper Bavarian cuisine, neighbourhood spots, markets, anything authentic. I love to cook too and wouldn’t be opposed to doing a cooking class if you have any to recommend. • Museums and arts. I am open to everything from fine art to history to science to niche local collections. I specifically love theatre and plays. • Architecture – beautiful buildings, interesting urban spaces, hidden gems • Nice walks and natural scenery; parks, rivers, quieter neighbourhoods worth wandering • Experiences that are specific to Munich, Bavaria, or Germany. Anything I genuinely couldn’t do or feel anywhere else What I’m less interested in: • Clubs and nightlife • All-inclusive or overly touristy hotel experiences I have a lot of free time and I’m pretty flexible, so I’m open to things that take half a day or just an hour. Day trips from the city are also welcome if you think something nearby is worth it. Thank you! submitted by /u/kewal3234 [link] [comments]
