Visiting Munich for a week this summer – looking for recommendations (history, culture, food, architecture)

Our take

Hey r/travel! I’m super excited to spend a full week in Munich from June 5-12, and I want to dive deep into everything this vibrant city has to offer. I’m passionate about history, local culture, authentic Bavarian cuisine, and stunning architecture. I’d love your recommendations for historical sites, museums, and neighborhood spots that capture the true essence of Munich. If you know of any unique experiences or cooking classes, I’m all ears! Thanks in advance for helping me make the most of my adventure!

Hi r/travel! I’ll be spending a full week in Munich this summer (June 5-12) and I want to make the most of it. I’ve done some research, but honestly nothing beats hearing from people who know the city well. So I’d love your recommendations.

A bit about what I’m interested in:

• History and historical sites. I love learning about the past through the places that shaped it, whether that’s medieval, WWII-era, or anything in between. If there are any tours or tour guides you recommend that would be great too • Immersing in local culture. I want to experience Munich the way people actually live it, not just the tourist surface • Local food and drink. Proper Bavarian cuisine, neighbourhood spots, markets, anything authentic. I love to cook too and wouldn’t be opposed to doing a cooking class if you have any to recommend. • Museums and arts. I am open to everything from fine art to history to science to niche local collections. I specifically love theatre and plays. • Architecture – beautiful buildings, interesting urban spaces, hidden gems • Nice walks and natural scenery; parks, rivers, quieter neighbourhoods worth wandering • Experiences that are specific to Munich, Bavaria, or Germany. Anything I genuinely couldn’t do or feel anywhere else

What I’m less interested in:

• Clubs and nightlife • All-inclusive or overly touristy hotel experiences

I have a lot of free time and I’m pretty flexible, so I’m open to things that take half a day or just an hour. Day trips from the city are also welcome if you think something nearby is worth it.

Thank you!
