Portugal Spain Itinerary. Is 12 days enough in December end?
Our take
Hello everyone,
Im trying to figure out my itinerary to these two amazing countries. I land in Lisbon and fly out of Barcelona. Total duration 12 days. 22Dec to 2Jan.
Could anyone recommend day splits or anything of that sort? Like 4-5 days Portugal and 6-7 days Spain?
My plan of action is something like, land in Lisbon, next day head to Algarve and do sky diving and live around that area for a few days. Then head to Seville, Madrid and Barcelona and fly out to my hometown. I plan to spend NYE in Barcelona (as suggested) by internet ai.
Obviously I can't do the entire countries in 12 days, so asking you folks if there's something I need to add or maybe skip.
I'm travelling with my wife. We're both adventurers. I'm astonished by the Spanish and Portuguese history of conquest, so id happily visit museums and castles or anything that depicts their histories.
Please suggest something. I went to Switzerland some time back and I enjoyed it, but reviews here made be believe I could've done a bit more. Hence, I am asking you folks.
Cities I'd surely want to visit are Lisbon and Barcelona, as id be flying to and out from them. I don't mind taking a car, train or a flight for internal travels. Whatever is best for the time, id do it.
My preference for cities are Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and maybe Valencia.
Adventure activities: Sky diving and a bit of Hiking.
Thanks in advance folks. Let's hope for some good responses.

- Torn on Adding Lisbon to a Barcelona/Mallorca TripMy GF (Late 20s) and myself (Early 30s) have been wanting to travel to Spain for a while now, specifically Barcelona and Mallorca. Due to her work schedule, we are only able to go in late August (I know, I know) so we are prepared for the crowds and everything that comes with it. We have heard great things about Lisbon and figured we would throw that into the trip too. So right now we have flights into Barcelona and out of Lisbon. The problem is that gives us 2 full days in one location, and 3 full days in the other 2. We definitely want to spend at least 3 full days in Mallorca, but I am unsure how to split the other days or if we should cut out Lisbon and focus on Barcelona and Mallorca. I know there are plenty of day trips we could take from Barcelona as well to explore. Current Proposed Itinerary: Barcelona Day 1 (Land at 10am local time), Day 2, Day 3 Travel to Mallorca Day 4 Mallorca Day 5, Day 6, Day 7 Travel to Lisbon Day 8 Lisbon Day 9, Day 10, Day 11 Travel Home Day 12 We want to enjoy some great food, cool bars (day drinking or a drink after dinner, no nightclubs) and enjoy the european coast/beaches. I surf (part of the draw to lisbon) but otherwise we are fine at a beach bar or club. We are fairly adventurous and like taking in the local sites and history and walking around, but I don't want to plan a trip around historical sites. The food, drinks, and actual activities are more important. Does anyone have any insight or have done this trip or similar? We will be disappointed in Lisbon? Happy to answer any clarifying questions, and thank you in advance! EDIT: We can both get by with Spanish but would touch up on it and take some lessons/tutoring before the trip. I have never tried to speak Portuguese, but would plan to pick it up at a beginner level. submitted by /u/CaptPatSparrow [link] [comments]
- Spain vs Spain + Portugal (15 days, mid-June) — itinerary feedback?Hi, I’ve been reading past threads, but I’m still unsure how to structure this trip and would really appreciate some feedback. Trip details: ~15 days total (mid-June, somewhat flexible) Flying from the US (likely into Barcelona, out of Lisbon) Budget: mid-range (mix of hotels + occasional nicer stays) Interests: food, walkable cities, history, some architecture, not big on rushing or checking boxes What I’ve researched so far: I came up with two rough options: Option A (Spain only): Barcelona (4 days) Madrid (3 days) Seville (3–4 days) Granada (2 days) Option B (Spain + Portugal): Barcelona (3–4 days) Seville (3 days) Lisbon (3 days) Porto (2–3 days) My questions: Does Option B feel too rushed given the travel time between Spain and Portugal? If sticking to Spain, would you prioritize Granada over somewhere like Valencia or more time in Madrid? Any adjustments you’d make to improve pacing? submitted by /u/Existential_boba9352 [link] [comments]
- Advice on stops between Lisbon to AlgarveHi all, I have the front and back end of my Portugal itinerary down, pasted below. I am torn on what to do in middle, namely on day 5 and 6. As you can see below my initial plan was to take the scenic route and stop in Alentejo region for two days/1 night. I've considered 1) making day 5 a Cascais day trip and just driving straight to Algarve on day 6 using the highway. or 2) making day 4 a day trip to Cascais, then day 5-6 an overnight in Sintra, then straight to Algarve. Other stops i've considered are Evora, though a little out of the way. Would love insight from anyone whos done a similar trip. With the four days in the Algarve, I'm interested in any suggestions that would bring diversity to the itinerary. ie Porto Covo feeling the same as Lagos would be helpful to know. Day 1 - arrive LIS 4:40pm Day 2 - explore Lisbon Day 3- more Lisbon Day 4 - Sintra day trip Day 5 - was going to drive Lisbon to Alentejo, stop overnight in Porto Covo Day 6 - Porto Covo daytime to Algarve Day 7- Algarve (lagos or carvoeiro) Day 8 - Algarve (Seven Hanging Valleys Trail hike) Day 9 - Algarve (SUP Bengali caves) Day 10- Algarve (another town) Day 11- check out, fly to next destination (London) I would say my partner and I love to do something active each day followed by some chill beach time. We come from a beach town so its not entirely novel to use, but do love a quintessential eruo summer vibe. Good food is always appreciated, but we dont really drink. - Dissect this itinerary- Lisbon-AndaluciaI know some may think this is too much hopping, but I like to get a taste of a place and then go back another time if it blows me away. Have a rental car most of the trip. If you have any off the beaten path places I should see drop them in... either restaurants, 'hidden' gems, or hiking trails. Day 1 Fly into Lisbon- drive either to Sintra or Nazare (then to Sintra coast) Day 2 back to Lisbon- stop along the way National Palace, etc. Day 3 Lisbon- explore city Day 4 Lisbon- more exploration then fly to Seville Day 5 Seville- Alcalazar, other landmarks Day 6 Cadiz/Tarifa or just Tarifa- either spend some time in Cadiz on beach or drive to Tarifa and do same + boat tour, maybe daytrip to Tangier Day 7 Gibraltar- probably get a day pass and explore Day 8 and 9 Ronda (and area) Day 10 Granada- Alhambra Day 11-13 Malaga- beach time, stop at a cave, Caminito Del Rey, explore Malaga Fly back Budget- mid range maybe $100 Euros/day submitted by /u/ShartInYourFace [link] [comments]
