Hot air ballooning in the Swiss Alps

Our take

If you're dreaming of a solo adventure in Switzerland, the Swiss Alps offer an unforgettable experience, especially with a hot air balloon ride! With just four days from August 13 to 16, focusing on one region will allow you to truly soak in the beauty and charm. Basel is a fantastic choice, with its chocolate-making course adding a sweet twist to your travels. As for Sundays, while some places may be closed, consider the scenic train ride to France for a change of pace.

I am travelling solo in Europe later this year and only have 4 days that I can spend in Switzerland, between 13 - 16 Aug. I appreciate that I can't see all of Switzerland in that time, so I figured I would focus on one region and truly appreciate that. I have been advised that Basel is wonderful and I can do a chocolate making course there, but nothing has been booked yet so I can change that if necessary.

I have a couple of questions that I am struggling to answer. Please help!

  1. I believe that everything is closed on Sundays. Is it worthwhile staying on a Sunday or travelling on the Sunday to France by train?

  2. I have always dreamed of taking a hot air balloon across the Swiss Alps, but I am struggling to work out how to get a flight in summer. Can anyone recommend a town/region or even company which can make my dream come true?

Note that I will be using the train system. As an Aussie, I don't trust me driving on the wrong side of the road!
