Planning a Switzerland trip – best base for Alps and budget?
Our take
Hi! I’m planning a 20-day trip to Europe in July with my brother and we’re trying to organize our itinerary 😊
We’ll be visiting Paris, Switzerland and Italy, but right now we’re focusing on Switzerland. We’re really interested in nature (Alps, hiking, lakes), and we’re thinking about places like Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, a bit of Zurich, and maybe Bern if possible.
I’ve read that Interlaken is a good central base, but I’m not sure if it’s the best option or if there are better (and maybe cheaper) alternatives like Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald.
Our goal is to have a great experience but not spend too much, so any advice on where to stay, what to prioritize, or what to skip would be really helpful 🙏
Also, we’re still figuring out Italy, so if anyone has recommendations (especially in northern Italy), I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks so much!

- Switzerland Itinerary FeedbackHi All! My wife and I are planning a trip to Switzerland in June to celebrate our anniversary. While we’ve perused many blogs (CN Traveller, Swiss Traveler) and Reddit posts, most have advised on winter time and not summer time. Our biggest concern right now is whether this is the best split between the cities and towns we’re traveling (and if we’re missing anything). We would love any feedback from locals or those that have been! Day 1: land in Zurich (evening time), settle in and check out the Old Town. Day 2: Full day in Zurich (suggestions welcome on must see things) Day 3-5: Travel, explore Lauterbrunnen, leave for Zermatt evening of Day 5. For Lauterbrunnen: any suggestions on where to stay in both Lauterbrunnen (between the valley, Grindelwald, and Mürren) Day 6-7: Zermatt (suggestions welcome on must see things) For Zermatt: we’ve seen many posts about Cervo, Omnia, etc Day 8: Train to Lucerne, sightsee during day and stay night in Lucerne Day 9: Fly out of Zurich Many thanks in advance! submitted by /u/Past_Bathroom_627 [link] [comments]

- travel question for switzerlandim planning on going to europe later this year and i would like to go to switzerland for a short period of time 3-6 days. i wanted to know if anyone had any advice on what place to go for beautiful views within bike riding or hiking distance and also cheap hostels if possible. ive looked into places like lauterbrunnen as i thought the waterfalls in the mountains would be amazing to see in real life. Although i am still unsure if this would be the best place to go considering the small period i intend to spend there. the hostels and bike hire there also seemed expensive, there was still one or two options that were under 60 a night wich i would be willing to pay for 3-4 nights. Is there anywhere that is known for nice views possibly some water falls like lauterbrunnen and maybe an easier commute so closer to an airport but mostly affordability and scenery. thankyou :) submitted by /u/Glad_Mail_4669 [link] [comments]
- Zurich to Rome 11 night itinerary with 5 year old very confusedHi everyone! I’ve changed my trip itinerary a thousand times by now and my brain is fried. Please help me divide up my 11 nights between Switzerland, Florence, and Rome. Potentially Milan if needed to break up travel. About us- 2 adults and a 5 year old. Safety and relaxation very important to us. We want to see beautiful sights, have great food, and access to local shopping. We will not be hiking or doing anything adventurous. One thing we really are excited about is Bernina express train but I don’t know how to fit that into our itinerary if we are on the western side of Switzerland. Current plan- Switzerland 4-5 nights Florence- 3 nights Rome- 3 nights I am confused about where to stay in Switzerland and if we need to switch hotels at some point to make our way south. Or do we stay in one spot? Should we just forget about bernina express or is there an efficient way to make it work? And can we go straight to Florence or should we really be stopping in Milan for a night? Everything I’m reading says to stay in Lucern and then go to Wengen and then to Florence. This wouldn’t allow for Bernina and would be a long travel day to Florence. But is it the right thing to do? Any thoughts are appreciated! I am usually good at planning trips but this one has really tired my brain out. Thank you! As submitted by /u/myunexplainedlife [link] [comments]
