Friends trip from Vienna to Budapest by bike

Our take

Hey everyone! This summer, I’m organizing an epic bike trip from Vienna to Budapest with four friends, crossing through Bratislava. While I've explored both cities and know they’re fantastic, our goal is to connect with locals and embrace spontaneous adventures. Last time, we ended up fishing with some amazing locals, which became a highlight of our journey! We’re a bit concerned that the route might feel touristy and monotonous, so I’d love any tips or alternative spots to check out along the way.

Hi everyone, I'm organising a trip for this summer along with 4 other friends of mine, and our first idea was to go from Vienna to Budapest by bike, crossing Bratislava as well. I have been to both Vienna and Budapest and have no worries at all about the interest of these cities, but here is the thing. When we go on a trip with my friends, our first interest is to meet the locals and to let the trip happen, if for example someone invites us to a village celebration lost in the middle of nowhere there is a high change we'll go, last time we ended up fishing for two days with some old folks and that ended up being the best part of our journey, our plans are always bond to change everyday and that's what we love about travelling.

This is the first time we would pick a very touristic destination and are worried the path between Vienna to Budapest might be a little monotone with mostly people tired of seeing tourists go past.

If anyone has been there I would be very curious to have their feedback and advices on alternative places to go around Budapest or further, we are not looking for precise plans but global advises are welcome (and if someone wants to advise something completely different, we'll take it)

Thanks a lot!
