Thoughts on our honeymoon itinerary?
Our take
Planning a honeymoon is one of the most exciting adventures a couple can embark on, and the itinerary shared by u/tayyylooor perfectly captures the essence of a dream trip. With a focus on walkable cities, delicious food, and a preference for laid-back wine bars over the bustling nightlife scene, this journey through France, Spain, and potentially Italy or Portugal is all about creating memorable experiences together. As seen in similar travel discussions like NYC to Paris, Venice, Rome, & Cruise and October Italy..., the importance of crafting an itinerary that balances exploration with relaxation cannot be overstated.
Starting in Paris is an excellent choice for any honeymoon. The City of Light is synonymous with romance, offering picturesque parks, vibrant cafés, and the chance to stroll hand-in-hand along the Seine. Spending 4-5 nights here allows ample time to soak in the culture, from iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower to hidden gems in the Marais district. After Paris, heading to Cassis for a few nights adds a refreshing coastal twist. This charming town, famous for its stunning calanques and delightful wine, is a fantastic spot for couples to unwind and enjoy the sun-soaked Mediterranean lifestyle. This blend of urban and coastal experiences is the kind of thoughtful planning that makes a trip feel both adventurous and intimate.
When it comes to choosing between Italy and Portugal, both countries offer unique flavors of adventure. Italy, with its rich history and culinary delights, is always a tempting option. A stop in Milan allows for exploration of fashion and art, while Bologna, renowned for its gastronomy, offers a fantastic opportunity to indulge in delicious local cuisine. Alternatively, Portugal’s vibrant culture and stunning landscapes present a different kind of romance. With the option to fly to Lisbon, couples can explore the picturesque streets of Alfama and the stunning coastlines of Cascais. This flexibility in itinerary reflects a spirit of adventure that resonates deeply with today's travelers, as noted in discussions like First time in Italy, need help!.
Ultimately, the choice between Italy and Portugal boils down to what kind of experiences the couple wants to cherish. Do they prefer the charm of Italian piazzas and the allure of historic landmarks, or the laid-back vibe of Portuguese beaches and vibrant city life? Each destination offers an opportunity to bond over shared meals, explore new cultures, and create lasting memories together. As they navigate through their honeymoon planning, it’s important for them to keep an open mind and embrace the unexpected. The beauty of travel lies in its ability to surprise and delight, and this journey is just the beginning of many adventures to come.
As u/tayyylooor contemplates their itinerary, they might also consider the possibility of incorporating spontaneous experiences along the way—like a cooking class in Bologna or a sunset wine tasting in Cassis. Each moment is an opportunity to connect more deeply, not just with each other, but with the places they visit. What unique experiences will they discover off the beaten path? The adventure lies not just in the destination, but in the journey they take together, and we can’t wait to see how their story unfolds!
Hello! We'll be taking a ~3-week honeymoon this September (maybe into early October).
A bit about us: We enjoy walkable cities/towns with nice parks/green spaces, beaches, good food, coffee, wine, and cocktails! We prefer going to a nice wine bar or chill bar/lounge over a club.
Right now we're for sure want to go to France and Spain, but are deciding between Italy and Portugal. Here's our rough itinerary:
Fly into Paris for 4-5 nights (have been here before)
Take the train to Cassis for 3 nights
If we choose Italy:
Fly to Milan for 3-4 nights
Take the train to Bologna for 3-4 nights
Fly to Barcelona for 3-4 nights (have been before)
Take the train to Valencia (3-4 nights)
Fly home (either from Valencia or travel back to Barcelona)
If we choose Portugal:
Fly from Cassis/Nice to Barcelona
Take the train to Valencia
Fly to Libson (4-5 nights, have been before) and likely take a day trip to Cascais.
Fly home (Southern California)
Also open to other city recommendations! Thanks!

- First time in Italy, need help!Hello, A friend and I are celebrating our 40th birthday(s) in Italy this September and we would love some help/suggestions to help planning. We are two single gals that are traveling as budget friendly as possible but still want to stay in accommodations that feel safe, friendly and offer private bathrooms. We love meeting other travelers and are open to homestays or local b&b's when possible. My dream day in italy would include seeing art, exploring the history, eating homecooked food with locals and dancing with cute boys haha. I am vegetarian but no other crazy restrictions. We both love wine, and we would love to meet folks our age and be away from touristy crowds. We have a general itinerary planned but need some support: any cities we should edit/add/remove where to book trains vs renting a car any recommended places to stay. people to meet, places to make reservations for now, etc would be very helpful help around planning our time in Tuscany & Sicily, we want to see a lot but also prefer slow/easeful travel vs maximizing output. any tours or excursions you recommend things we MUST see/do in certain places We basically are feeling a little stuck on how much we need to book now and how much we can "wing it" when there. We are currently trying to figure out housing that is flexible with our time. Our itinerary: August 23-28: Geneva August 28-1: Venice September 1-8: Dolomites (mostly booked but open) September 9-11: Florence September 11-16: Tuscany (we booked a farm stay in Volterra but dont know if we should book multiple stays across different regions or stay in one place and do day trips) September 16-20: Ischia/Naples (other day trips) September 21-24 Ravello/Amalfi (but we are thinking about skipping this bc we heard its very touristy and expensive) September 24-30ish: Sicily (should we stay in one place, move around?) I'm new to reddit and new to Europe so appreciate kindness and curiosity! submitted by /u/LiveWonderFoodie [link] [comments]
- Advice on stops between Lisbon to AlgarveHi all, I have the front and back end of my Portugal itinerary down, pasted below. I am torn on what to do in middle, namely on day 5 and 6. As you can see below my initial plan was to take the scenic route and stop in Alentejo region for two days/1 night. I've considered 1) making day 5 a Cascais day trip and just driving straight to Algarve on day 6 using the highway. or 2) making day 4 a day trip to Cascais, then day 5-6 an overnight in Sintra, then straight to Algarve. Other stops i've considered are Evora, though a little out of the way. Would love insight from anyone whos done a similar trip. With the four days in the Algarve, I'm interested in any suggestions that would bring diversity to the itinerary. ie Porto Covo feeling the same as Lagos would be helpful to know. Day 1 - arrive LIS 4:40pm Day 2 - explore Lisbon Day 3- more Lisbon Day 4 - Sintra day trip Day 5 - was going to drive Lisbon to Alentejo, stop overnight in Porto Covo Day 6 - Porto Covo daytime to Algarve Day 7- Algarve (lagos or carvoeiro) Day 8 - Algarve (Seven Hanging Valleys Trail hike) Day 9 - Algarve (SUP Bengali caves) Day 10- Algarve (another town) Day 11- check out, fly to next destination (London) I would say my partner and I love to do something active each day followed by some chill beach time. We come from a beach town so its not entirely novel to use, but do love a quintessential eruo summer vibe. Good food is always appreciated, but we dont really drink. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/hawaii210 [link] [comments]
