Question about luggage China Southern Airlines

Our take

Hey there, adventurer! Traveling for the first time is super exciting, and it’s totally normal to have questions about luggage. With China Southern Airlines, you’re allowed two check-in bags, each weighing up to 23 kg, plus one carry-on that should not exceed 8 kg. Now, regarding your question: typically, your carry-on can be a small suitcase or a backpack, but it’s best to check the airline's specific guidelines. This way, you can pack your essentials and enjoy your journey to Japan without any worries!

Hi! This is my first time travelling so I’m a little unsure if I understand correctly. I’m flying economy with China Southern Airlines from Amsterdam to Japan with a layover in China.

It says on their site that I’m allowed 2 check-in bags of each > 23kg, and 1 carry-on > 8kg.

My question is if backpack is also considered the carry-on, or if I can bring a small suitcase/luggage case AND a backpack?
