Our take

Hey there, adventurous souls! It sounds like you're gearing up for an epic Pacific West Coast romantic getaway this September! With a love for both beach and mountain vibes, you've got some fantastic options on your list. From the dreamy landscapes of Carmel and Big Sur to the charming shores of Cannon Beach, each destination offers unique experiences for hiking, sightseeing, and indulging in local delights. With your desire for relaxation and exploration, let’s dive into your options and make this trip unforgettable!

hi! my (27f) boyfriend (31m) and I want to take a trip to the PWC this year for vacation. We are looking at going sometime in September, as the prices for where we are looking seem better around that time of year.

We love to travel together. We love both beach and mountain vacations. We really enjoy hiking, sightseeing, the beach, and cute little towns with great food//local small businesses. Excursion wise, we really just like to relax or hike, but we do like to kayak, fish and do boat tours/rides as well. My boyfriend does not drink.

We are planning to go for about 4-5 nights. We will also be renting a car. Mainly looking at between end of August - Early October.

Here’s our thoughts/ideas so far, and where has stood out to us:

- Carmel//Monterey, California: this has always been a dream destination of mine in the US. Seems like the best of both worlds destination - hiking, views, the beach, cute town. Definitely the priciest of our options, so the hotel/room options aren’t the best, but we don’t care much for aesthetics, we just want a clean place.

I really want to visit Big Sur, and so this is why it’s my top option personally. So so tough to find hotels/places to stay IN Big Sur, without paying an arm and a leg (and kidney, with some places lol)

- Cannon Beach, Oregon: this is my second choice, and my boyfriend’s first. We both have never been to Oregon. Another place that offers best of both worlds with hiking/beach, it looks like. It’s also more in our price budget - and we could get a nicer hotel within the same price range as Carmel in CA’s options.

- Near Los Angeles, we’ve been eyeing Newport Beach: I’ve personally been to Los Angeles before and loved it - but didn’t do anything beach/hiking related when I went years ago lol. My boyfriend is interested in seeing the city, but it’s not his first choice by any means.

Planning//looking here has been a little more stressful with the amount of options available, it’s a little harder to narrow down. It’s lower on our list of options because we travel to cities often, and we want a more laid back “vibe” around us if that makes sense

- Finally, Catalina Island in CA. Have not done much research here besides hearing good reviews from friends. Just an option we’ve thrown in the air.

Any recommendations/thoughts would be SO HELPFUL!! thank you in advance!
