July Nordic v Adriatic

Our take

Hey, fellow adventurers! My partner and I, a queer couple from the US in our late 30s, are planning a late July getaway and need your insights! We love exploring food, coffee, and scenic strolls, but we prefer to avoid crowds and extreme heat. We’re torn between Helsinki-Tallinn-Riga and Ljubljana-Kobarid for a summer escape. We enjoyed Basque Country and Madrid’s parks but found Porto overwhelming.

My partner and I (queer US women in our late 30s) are only available to travel in late July this year. I hate crowds (but loved Tokyo, so I think I just hate loud/us-centric/touristy crowds), my partner finds 90 degrees F unbearable, and we are much more into food and coffee and wandering than parties. We loved Basque Country, Madrid’s parks, but I found Porto, Portugal spiking my agoraphobia. All that to say- we are debating going to Helsinki-tallin-Riga OR Ljubljana-kobarid-????? in July.

Does anyone have experience with these places during summer? Pros/cons/“hey you didn’t consider this?”? OR suggestions during summer for spots I haven’t considered? It seems like Helsinki may cost more, but I’m not sure about day to day stuff. Any comments appreciated!
