I miss the feeling my first trips gave me

Our take

Traveling has always been one of my greatest passions, yet I’ve recently noticed a shift in how I experience it. At 35, with 39 countries under my belt, I still love exploring new places. However, the thrill of my early adventures—filled with intense feelings of freedom and discovery—seems to have faded. While beautiful destinations still captivate me, they don’t evoke that same “holy shit” excitement anymore. I’d love to connect with fellow travelers who have felt this shift and share our experiences.

Lately I’ve realized something that feels weird to admit.

I’m 35 now and traveling has been one of the biggest passions of my life since I was young. Over the years I’ve traveled solo, with friends, and now also as a couple. I’ve been to 39 countries and in a few of them I actually stayed long enough to really live there, not just visit.

And recently I noticed something changed.

I still absolutely love traveling. I still get excited before a trip. But the feeling isn’t the same as it used to be during my first years traveling.

Back then everything felt intense. New country, new culture, new language, even arriving at an airport felt exciting. I remember getting this crazy feeling of freedom and discovery that’s honestly hard to describe.

Now it’s like my brain became too used to novelty.

Beautiful places are still beautiful, but they don’t always hit me with that same “holy shit” feeling anymore. And honestly I kind of miss that version of travel.

It’s strange because I’m not tired of traveling at all. I think I just became harder to impress without wanting to.

Would genuinely love to hear from people who traveled a lot and experienced the same thing at some point.
