Bologna in August

Our take

Hey there, adventure seeker! Planning a trip to Bologna from August 19-23 sounds incredible! While Ferragosto on August 15 marks a peak holiday time in Italy, Bologna typically remains lively with plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops open to welcome tourists. Faenza might have a quieter vibe, but you'll still find local gems, including wineries, ready to share their delights. Embrace the heat, enjoy the sunshine, and get ready for a fabulous blend of relaxation and exploration in this vibrant region!

Hello

I'm planning a trip to Bologna area 19-23 August.

I'm aware that Ferragosto is 15 August, and generally Italians use August as their Summer holiday break.

I intend to stay in Bologna City Centre 19-21 and then visit Villa Abbondanzi Resort in Faenza 21-23, where I'll relax poolside for the couple of days. I hope to have a lesuirely cycle to one or two wineries for a tasting and tour, and visit a restaurant and bars in Faenza.

I understand it will be roasting hot. I love the heat and sunshine, so no issue there. The pool will help me cool off!

My question is, at this particular time of the year, will:

A) Bologna City Centre

B) Faenza

be super quiet with lots of bars, restaurants and shops closed? Particularly Faenza, and the local places there, and also typically wineries? I guess Bologna has more chance of things being open.

Or being it's also tourist season, many places will still be open?

Thank you!
