Our take

Renting a car for the Teth/Valbona hike is a fantastic choice, allowing you to soak in the breathtaking scenery at your own pace. After your adventurous trek, chilling on the beautiful southern beaches will be the ultimate way to unwind. Get ready for an epic journey filled with unforgettable experiences!
Hi! We are going to Albania for 10 days in mid May - is there any advice you have for us? We are thinking of a few days in Tirana then renting a car and going to hike the Teth/Valbona path and then drive down and chill in the beach down south.
Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated.

- Where to stay in Albania? Recommendations and advice appreciated!Hi everyone! I hope this is on-topic for this sub. I hope you can help me with some recommendations. Its the first time Im visiting a country I have no knowledge of whatsoever (very exciting) and need to find an area in Albania to stay in this summer for a beach/pool vacation. Details: I can fly to either Tirana og go by boat to Saranda on arrival. I would like to avoid renting a vehicle, since I dont particularly feel safe driving in foreign countries. This means I need to stay relatively close to these cities. My partner would like to feel some luxury (not like super intense, just a little bit) but we are still on a budget. We both really need a relaxing vacation with sun, swimming and good food, but we also want to be able to go for a day trip out and see some nature and do smaller hikes, or visit some of the old cities. We are planning to leave for 10-ish days. I am really looking for specific advice for cities, beaches, hotels etc. (or the opposite if some places should be avoided). Advice on good hikes, good food etc is also very welcome - but might be difficult since I dont yet know what part of Albania we’re staying in. I hope for your help, advice or tips! ☀️ submitted by /u/LifeStorm789 [link] [comments]
- 11 days in Albania - Where to stay along the coast? Sarande/Himare/Vlore?Hey everyone, My wife and I are heading to Albania in early-mid June for 13 nights (11 days net, excluding flight nights). We’ll have a rental car and we’re trying to figure out the best way to split our time on the coast without constantly packing and unpacking. The plan so far: Tirana: 1 night (landing late). Berat: 2 nights. Planning to do the Osumi canyon for rafting/tubing on the second day. The Riviera: This is where we need help. We want at least 2 bases (maybe 3 if it makes sense), staying 2-3 nights in each. We’re looking for nice hotels and clear water. We don't mind pebbles as long as the scenery is good and it's not wall-to-wall people. We aren’t "party animals" but we don’t want a ghost town either - we'd like to have a few nice bars to go to at night. Specific questions: Sarande vs. Vlore: Is Vlore too much of a "city" and not enough of a beach town? On the flip side, is Sarande already a total crowded mess in mid-June? Currentlyleaning towards Sarande. Himare vs. Dhermi: We’re leaning toward Himare for the authentic/relaxed vibe, but we're worried it might be too quiet. Is Dhermi worth the extra cost, or is it just "expensive Himare"? Does it make sense to go Berat -> Sarande (3n) -> Gjirokaster (1n) -> Himare (3n)? Or is it better to do Gjirokaster immediately after Berat and then stay on the coast for the rest of the trip? We’re aware of the coastal road from Vlore and want to make sure we don’t miss the best views. Gjirokaster: Is 1 night enough? We're planning to hit the Blue Eye on the way in or out. If anyone has recommendations for beaches that are worth a 15-20 minute drive to escape the crowds, or thoughts on the "vibe" of these towns in June, let us know. - help me with my albania itinerary!27f, trying to plan an Albania itinerary with a mix of hiking/beach time for late august/early sept. I don't love driving so plan to rely on buses/public transit. I'm debating if I should try to fit in 1 more beach day, but unsure of what else to cut and also want to ensure I don't spend all my days on buses. thoughts? I'm also open to switching towns that I'm staying in if anyone has any strong recs, as I haven't booked anything yet August 26 (Day 0): fly out from NYC, overnight flight, arrive the next morning in Albania August 27 (Day 1): arrive in Tirana in the morning, take bus directly from airport to Shkodër, sleep there August 28 (Day 2): wake up in Shkodër, explore August 29 (Day 3): Shkodër → ferry to Valbona in early AM (bring backpack, leave remaining luggage at hotel), arrive and settle in Valbona, sleep there August 30 (Day 4): hike Valbona → Theth pass, sleep in Theth August 31 (Day 5): explore Theth, optional Blue Eye hike if energy allows, sleep in Theth September 1 (Day 6): bus from Theth → Shkodër in the morning, sleep in Shkodër again and get luggage September 2 (Day 7): morning bus from Shkodër → Himarë, arrive and sleep in Himarë in evening most likely (~6 hrs by bus most likely) September 3 (Day 8): Himarë beach day September 4 (Day 9): Himarë beach day 2 — boat tour? September 5 (Day 10): Himarë → Tirana, sleep in Tirana near airport September 6 (day 11): fly back in the morning, arrive in NYC in late afternoon • ⁃ alt: fly back sept 7 and have 1 extra beach day? but would prefer to get back sept 6 to have a buffer day before back to work submitted by /u/eh1234509876 [link] [comments]
- Albania/ which place to stay longer?Hey guys, I’m travelling to Albania in a month. I’m planning on staying in Berat, Vlorë and then Himarë. Vlore is just a stop off for a night. I was wondering, is it better to do 3 nights in Berat, and 2 nights in Himarë. Or the other way round? I am only there for a week, so any help would be appreciated. submitted by /u/No_Reading6856 [link] [comments]
